The idea behind
Seven spectacular mountain summits entice hikers to take part in the Salzburger Summit Game in the Salzburger Sportwelt. The idea behind it is simple: the seven mountains symbolically stand for the “Benevolent Queen“ and her six noblemen“. Each summit has a tale to tell, shares its message and offers its own piece of wisdom to hikers.
Those undertaking the tours not only hike amid a picturesque mountain landscape, but can also get to grips with the wisdom of the mountains at a profound level. Thus, the Salzburger Summit Game becomes a playful natural experience for adults and the family as a whole.
The 7 mountains in
the Salzburger Summit Game
Bischofsmütze in Filzmoos.
The Benevolent Queen.
The circular tour leads around the foot of the Bischofsmütze mountain to idyllically located alpine pastures and offers fabulous views of the Gosaukamm and Dachstein ranges. The Benevolent Queen opens hikers’ eyes to the little things along the way, such as wild herbs and their secret messages.
Hochgründeck in St. Johann.
The Healer.
The Hochgründeck is one of the highest, wooded mountain peaks in Europe and is an ancient place of ritual. Those walking up through the forest will find peace and tranquillity. A healing spot for reflection and recharging your batteries.
Penkkopf in Wagrain-Kleinarl.
The Magician.
Wild bees, bumblebees, butterflies and marmots can be observed up close on the Penkkopf, which is green right up to the summit. This mountain, wonderful for spectacular views is a place, which makes hikers aware, what a gift life is.
Saukarfunktel in Flachau.
The Poet.
The Saukarfunktel is the second summit behind the widely visible Griessenkareck. Once you’ve conquered it along a scenic panorama path, large stones and rocks invite you to sit down and rest. Those looking to find their talents will find inspiration here.
Lackenkogel in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.
The Watchman.
Do you fancy feeling really strong, brave and unbeatable? Then head up to the Lackenkogel! Like a watchman, this mountain towers over the valley resort of Altenmarkt. The Lackenalmen count amongst the most picturesque alpine pastures areas in the region.
Rossbrand in Radstadt.
The Scout.
The Rossbrand counts as one of the best mountains in the Eastern Alps for scenic views. Where, where if not here, can you gain new insights and perspectives? Here, between heaven and earth, you can make wise decisions at your leisure. And sometimes a little oracle helps.
Gerzkopf in Eben.
The Bearer of Secrets.
Legendary lakes, a mystic peak moor, an ancient shepherd’s hut and a wishing bell: the Gerzkopf in Eben is a fascinating mountain, which – geographically speaking, is nearest to the Bischofsmütze. Those harbouring secret wishes and their fulfilment have come to the right place here.
The Legend of the Benevolent Queen
and her six noblemen
Once upon a time, a benevolent queen reigned here in this land: even today the distinctive shape of the Bischofsmütze mountain in Filzmoos is reminiscent of the monarch. Her main priority was to make the world a better place. All living things – humans, animals and plants – were personally protected by her and she ensured that happiness, satisfaction and prosperity prevailed in her kingdom. Nobody had to go hungry or suffer need: harmony, respect and humility were important to her as well as love, freedom and community spirit. As a clever and wise woman, she surrounded herself with six noblemen, whom she trusted wholeheartedly:
those were her Watchman, her Bearer of Secrets, the Scout, the Poet, the Magician and her Healer. They advised the Queen in complicated matters and were just as intent on the well-being of her kingdom as she herself.
Even today, we can learn something from the Queen and her noblemen: by following their paths, listening to the whispering in the trees and taking note of their hidden messages. They were – as the story goes – turned to stone and transformed into seven summits: widely visible and characteristic of the landscape.

The “Benevolent Queen“ and her Noblemen“ were once upon a time powerful monarch and her wise advisors. Since turned to stone, the seven mountains Bischofsmütze, Penkkopf, Hochgründeck, Saukarfunktel, Gerzkopf, Rossbrand and Lackenkogel hark back to this legend.
The tours are all easy to medium difficult and can be undertaken by adults as well as children. There are no climbing passages or exposed spots.
For each summit a ritual has been concepted around the peculiarities of the Queen, the Noblemen and their messages to us human beings. Thus, for example, the Bearer of Secret’s ritual concerns our most secret wishes, the Poet’s ritual concerns our talents and the Magician’s ritual is all about leaving your comfort zone. The rituals should be taken as an invitation or inspiration and are not obligatory.
