Zauchensee: Summer’s in sight!

Winter didn’t want to leave us – and at the moment there’s still a great of snow on the mountains around Zauchensee due to the month of May being relatively cold – yet summer’s on its way. This year we start the summer season as a certified “summer lift resort”. What’s so special about that? The seal of approval “Austria’s best summer lifts“ stands for “geniune mountain experiences and top quality tourist attractions in the Salzburg lift regions“. Over 160 quality criteria are scrutinised. Only the best lifts, offering guests a special experience, receive this award.

Gamskogelbahn lift into the alpine summer

The early bird… travels up comfortably on the chairlift. Even before the sun rises, we’re up and about. In July and August there’s an early morning journey up on the Gamskogel lift to enjoy sunrise on the mountain top. Why is it worth getting up so early? Because you can experience this breathtaking spectacle accompanied by atmospheric alpine music. Afterwards you can savour a hearty breakfast at the Gamskogelhütte and set off refreshed on a gentle hike to the Seekarsee Lake for example.

Recharge your batteries at the Seekarsee Lake

The Seekarsee Lake is the best proof that a reservoir can fit harmoniously into the landscape and enrich the mountain scenery. The glistening blue mountain lake lies in a natural dip at an altitude of around 2,000 m, almost as if it’s always been there. Whilst in winter its water feeds the snow canons, in summer the lake is a hiking destination and relaxation area at the same time. The Seekarsee Lake is just 30 minutes’ walk from Gamskogel mountain station. On the way to the lake, the Seekar mile offers playful experiences for the whole family plus learning stations, where you can find out interesting background information about cows and dairy farming. Along the circular trail around the lake you’ll find a number of energy stations and cosy hammocks to enjoy the power of the mountains. With the help of the “Seekarometer“, various stations around the reservoir, you can build up your strength with specific exercises.

After studying in Salzburg, I moved back to my beautiful hometown “Altenmarkt”. In addition to the wonderful mountain scenery and the many opportunities - both in summer and in winter - I appreciate as an enthusiastic musician and member of the traditional brass band Altenmarkt above all the community, culture and customs in our region.
