March is here already! The days are starting to get longer, the sun’s getting stronger, the snow is softening up and spring is in the air. In March it’s time for the sporty aspect of skiing to take a back seat and enjoyment to take the upper hand.

Therefore, I’m looking forward a range of new events in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, where Indulgence.Time (9th to 30th March) plays a big role.

Hut.Shopping with beer tasting (10th & 11th March, 11.00 am – 3.00 pm)

At the highest “Hut.Shopping“ event I can combine all the pleasure of sunshine skiing with an extensive shopping spree. How come? Quite simple really! On both these days you’ll find pop-up stores with designers, producers and traders, selling their wares at the various ski huts. The selection ranges from sunglasses, decorations and children’s fashion to natural cosmetics. Plus there’s a special beer tasting by various breweries and live music too. My plan – start skiing early to enjoy the freshly-prepared slopes and after a few runs succumb to some shopping. Together with friends of course, whereby the male members of the party have already agreed to concentrate on the beer tasting aspect. Fortunately the Hut.Shopping lasts two days, as it’s impossible to manage all stations in one day, as there’s not just shopping involved. The cosy huts beckon with culinary highlights and thus we can savour the ambience, the sunshine with our jolly crowd and revel in our purchases. These we transport comfortably back down to the valley in a stylish rucksack, which we receive free of charge as a little “extra” with a purchase over € 15. And I’m sure, that even the men are happy to ski down with a rucksack.

Shopping evening with Wine.Art.Gallery (14th March, 4.30 pm – 9.00 pm)

I’m particularly looking forward to the extended shopping evening with Wine.Art.Gallery in Altenmarkt. On this particular evening around 30 vintners, primarily from Burgenland, are guests in the shops. So you can not only acquire the latest spring fashions until 9.00 pm, but you can at the same time taste and purchase the finest wines. Accompanied by cheese, bread and live music. For your stroll from shop to shop and from vintner to vintner you receive – for a fee of € 10 (€ 5 of which deposit) – a wine glass, which accompanies you the whole evening. So that you still have both hands free for browsing, there’s a shoulder bag for your glass too. The highlight of the evening is, in addition to the vintners also local artisans are guests in the shops too and present their work pieces. So the evening is actually a gallery visit with the best wines, beckoning you to go shopping. You can celebrate your successful purchases from 9.00 pm in Heli`s Wine Tavern at the “Get together“ with DJ.

The most innovative gourmet market (29th March 2.00 – 7.00 pm, 30th March 10.00 am – 7.00 pm)

Another big highlight in March is the Gourmet.Market in the Altenmarkt Town Square. For a genuine market experience in addition to the vendors at the popular weekly market, there are also start-up and special manufacturers presenting their specialities. Strolling between fruit and vegetable stalls, regional meat and cheese vendors, fresh bread, honey, oils, and chocolate you can peep over the shoulder of the grocer’s and Scheffer`s Hotel whilst they cook their delicacies which you can then savour in the cosy pavement café in the centre of the market, together with a drop of one of the fine wines which are available at the Gourmet.Market of course.
