The past few snow-filled weeks wouldn’t have been manageable without the tireless staff and helpers in our ski area. They kept on top of the record snow depths tirelessly, ensuring that the ski areas Zauchensee/Flachauwinkl and Radstadt/Altenmarkt were open with little to no restrictions at all.
During the last month staff conquered enormous challenges due to the massive snowfalls. Around 250 members of staff worked daily throughout the ski areas and were certainly pushed beyond their limits in January. They worked through the night too, as after the lifts are closed the time must be used to prepare the slopes for the lifts opening the next morning. But that’s not all. Round the clock, the whole team was dedicated to the satisfaction, but more importantly to the safety of our guests.
And it snowed daily
Members of the local avalanche warning commission were responsible for preventing avalanches reaching secure ski areas. Regular meetings were held between our management staff and the avalanche warning commission. Deciding which ski pistes could remain open and which not, was not always easy. A variety of factors always need to be considered: How much has it snowed? Has the wind displaced the snow dangerously? Are there areas where slab avalanches can occur? Together the lift company and the avalanche warning commission had to decide, whether and where avalanches had to be detonated or roads closed.
Parking for our guests was also a major problem as in January is snowed heavily nearly every day. We couldn’t just shovel the snow a bit to clear our car parks. Our lift staff could only cope with the huge amounts of snow using heavy machinery. In fact, the snow took on such dimensions, we almost didn’t know what to do with it. In the end up, it was transported by truck and lorry to depots, piled up and then compressed.
There were many voluntary helpers too from the Mountain Rescue, the Red Cross and the Fire Brigade to help clear the snow. They were all required to conquer the extreme weather conditions.
Therefore, a big THANK YOU is due to all helpers and staff at the Zauchensee lift company for their tireless efforts!
Perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding
I’m now looking forward to wonderful winter conditions in the coming weeks. Due to generous snow depths perfect slopes are guaranteed here in Zauchensee right up until the end of the season, after Easter.
Here in the Zauchensee ski area we look forward to you visiting our perfectly prepared slopes.
