New Year’s approaching fast and in addition to my New Year’s Resolutions I’m sure I’ll want to spend more time doing what makes me happy – skiing. In 2020 I’d like to use the New Year period to reflect on what my heart really desires.
On the first day of the year I’m once again going to enjoy (this year) the musical fireworks at the New Year’s Concert in the festive events hall in Zauchensee. Listening to pieces from Johann Strauss and Fritz Kreisler, played by the giovanni orchestra salzburg led by Johannes Krall, I’ll get in the spirit for the new year ahead.
My New Year’s Resolutions 2020 – skiing and enjoying life in Zauchensee
A quick glance at my calendar for 2020 makes me realise, that maybe I won’t be able to stick to all my resolutions. So instead of eating healthily for example, I’m going to concentrate on what gives me pleasure in 2020.
Although I’m more of a beer drinker, yet a gourmet at heart, the Ski & Wine Pleasure Week in Zauchensee is an absolute must. I’m looking forward to skiing in the spring sunshine combined with a glass of fine wine. During this event top vintners from Southern Styria and Burgenland invite visitors to a wine tasting in the World Cup Arena. As you come off the slopes you get handed a glass for a deposit of 5 Euro and you can taste your way through the wines, presented at the various stands.
In addition to winter sports, Pongau specialities are also a passion of mine. The highest Farmers‘ Market in the Alps in the Ski amadé takes place at the same time as the Ski and Wine Pleasure Week in Zauchensee from 14th to 21st March, so I can’t miss it. My plan is to ski from hut to hut in the Ski amadé and to try out the regional delicacies. Local producers present and sell their high-quality wares and home-made produce such as farmer’s bacon, game salami, farmer’s bread, Salzburg cheeses and alcoholic beverages such as liqueuers and schnaps at market stalls right on the slopes. The enticing aromas of genuine Pongau cheese gnocchi still lingers in my memory from last year. Have you ever heard of Plattlkrapfen (a type of fritter)? You can also try out this Pongau speciality at the highest farmers‘ market in the Alps. You’ll be as impressed as I am.
I’m looking forward to the ski slopes and our highlights in the forthcoming year. I (Andreas from the Zauchensee Lift Company) wish you all a happy and healthy New Year 2020
